Rajahmundry is one of the major cities in Andhra Pradesh,Which is located in East Godavari on the banks of River Godavari .Rajahmundry is also Known as a Cultural capital of andhra pradesh. Rajahmundry is ruled by King Rajaraja Narendrudu in 1020, That's the reason why it has named as Rajamahendravaram in the history. Later on in British Governament it is changed as Rajahmundry. Rajahmundry was the Headquarter of the both East godavari and west godavari districts during British Rule.


Rajahmundry is the Birth place of Great poet Aadi Kavi Nannayya Bhattaraka . Who was considered as first poet and translator of Telugu in 11th century. has the author of Rajashekhara Charithra, which is the first Telugu novel. Nannayya also translated the Mahabharata in to Telugu along with Tikkana and Yerrana. Rajahmundry is also birth place of renowned Artist Damerla Ramarao (March 8, 1897—February 6, 1925) who was established an Art Gallery in his name, Damerla Ramarao art gallery is near the Godavari railway station, here still we can bound his paintings won prizes in Delhi,Mumbai, culcutta and London and Toronto. and Renowned social worker and Politician, Freedom fighter Durgabai Deshmukh born in Rajahmundry, Durgabai was a member of constituent Assembly of India and Planning Commission of India.

1.Havelock Bridge (Old Godavari Bridge): 

Have lock bridge construction was started in 1876 and completed in 1897.It was constructed under the supervision of Granville Walton who had constructed the Dufferin Bridge over the Ganges, and Granville Mills, both British engineers. Spanning over 3 kilo meters in length, is linked the East Godavari and West Godavari districts. The bridge has been a vital link enabling trains to tun between Chennai and Howrah. Trains continued over the bridge for a century until 1997, when train services over the bridge ware suspended after the construction of two additional bridges.

2. Road Cum Rail Bridge:

This Godavari bridge was constructed in 1964, Then it was inaugurated by the President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed in 1974. When completed it was Asia's Second longest Road-cum-Rail bridge. this bridge length is 4.732 kilo meters.

3. Godavari Arch Bridge:

Godavari arch bridge was constructed by the HCC (Hiudustan Construction Company) India. which was designed by Bureau BBR from Switzerland, and Reviewed by Leonardt Andra and Partners, Germany. This bridge was began in 1991 and Continued till 1997. It was commissioned for passenger traffic in March 1997 and from 2003 it was completely ready for running trains by Indian railway.became fully operational for running trains by the Indian Railways from 2003.
